A Very Useful Tree
Stringybark tree forest
This scene is typical
of Arnhem Land woodlands. Note the bark missing from the
tree on the right - it may have been used for a bark shelter
or bark painting.
The stringybark (Eucalyptus tetrodonta) is a very tall straight
tree reaching up to 30 m
(about 95 ft) tall. The bark is rough, fibrous and stringy.
The bark can be used for many things including bark
paintings,
shelters, canoes and
dishes after it has been treated. The wood of the tree can also
be used to make tools and weapons.
